Summer Hair Problems Solved!

Summer Hair Care at McGills Hairdressing Salon in Edinburgh

Who doesn’t love summer? Whilst you’re enjoying the glorious sunshine, don’t forget that the warmer months can also play havoc with your hair. The sun, sea salt and, if you’re fortunate enough to get a holiday this year, chlorine from a swimming pool, can all cause your hair to become dry, brittle and prone to breaking – so make sure you stock up on the best products for healthy hair this summer with the experts at McGills Hairdressing in Edinburgh.

Care For Your Hair & The Environment This Summer With Davines

We are passionate about environmental sustainability, and are Edinburgh’s greenest eco-friendly salon. The Davines products we use in the salon reflect that and are free from harmful parabens, sulphates, PDP and use zero fossil gasses.
Davines is a carbon neutral, non profitable b company that cares about the environment, that invest back into sustainable projects throughout the world. They also use 40% LESS PLASTIC than any other beauty brand. With many clients looking for ways to explore sustainability whilst not compromising on their hair, we are delighted to be stocking Davines products and can advise you on the best Davines product for your hair

Choose The Best Summer Hair Cleansing Products

We tend to wash our hair more in the summer because suntan oils, sweat and styling can make it become greasy and feel clogged and dirty. Over washing can cause your hair to become dry and breaking. Using a sulphate-free shampoo, such as Davines Purifying Shampoo will cleanse your hair and scalp gently without drying it out. If you use a lot of products for styling classic beachy waves, oil and products can build up in your hair and scalp, this clarifying shampoo will clean all of that dirt out of your hair and leave it feeling fresh.

Prevent Fading Hair Colour in Summer

The sun can cause hair that has be coloured to fade so make sure to use Davines MINU range to prevent your hair colour from fading. The Davines MINU mask can be used as a weekly conditioning treatment to nourish dry, colour treated hair.

To be extra safe, make sure to cover up your hair on a hot summer’s day and use an SPF hair product to protect the colour and condition of your locks.

Protect Your Hair from Pool Chlorine

Chlorine in the pool can make your hair dry, cause havoc with coloured hair and lead to hair breaking. To prevent colour fade or breakage caused by chlorine, we would suggest wearing a cap in the pool or invest in a chlorine removing shampoo. Then, once you have returned to your normal routine, book an appointment at our Edinburgh salon where we can give you a professional conditioning treatment to restore the moisture back to your hair.

Reduce Frizzy Hair This Summer

Dealing with frizzy hair in the summer can be challenging due to the heat and humidity, but don’t worry, we have some solutions for this common summer hair problem!  We need to put moisture back into your hair to help prevent frizz. We stock the fabulous Davines LOVE SMOOTH range in our salon and online shop, which is designed to nourish, sooth and smooth stressed strands, eliminating frizz.

Stay Cool This Summer

Use a good heat protection spray such as Davines OI All In One Milk and hair products containing UV protection to protect your hair from the summer sun, as the heat can cause your hair to become dry and prone to breakage. Cover up your hair if possible when you’re in the sun, or have it tied back, and do not overdo it when using heated styling appliances like styling irons and hairdryers.
