Self-Love in Lockdown

Show Yourself Some Love This Valentine’s Day and Beyond

Show Yourself Some Love This Valentines Day, McGills Hairdressing Salon in Edinburgh

Love it or loathe it, Valentine’s Day is traditionally the ultimate time for romance and love. Whatever your views on Valentine’s Day, at McGills Hairdressing in Edinburgh, we think that this year we could all do with a bit of extra love. Whether you are celebrating with a loved one in your bubble or alone, show yourself some love this Valentines Day and beyond.

Lockdown is tough, especially at this time of year, and self-care is vitally important if we are to get through this time with our mental and physical health intact. By looking after ourselves, we will be better equipped to spread the love amongst those around us too. After all, you cannot pour from an empty cup.

Below are some of our favourite self-care ideas, with links to find out more…

Create a DIY Spa Day at Home

If the latest lockdown has spoiled your plans for a relaxing spa day, why not recreate the experience at home? Spa Day at Home McGills Hairdressing in EdinburghTurn off your phone, put on a soothing playlist and dim the lights. Light a candle or use some oils with relaxing scents and make sure you have some fluffy towels to hand as well as some healthy snacks.

Create the perfect spa bath, using essential oils and bubble bath, and enjoy some relaxing me-time. Whilst you are in the bath, it’s the perfect time to revitalise your hair with a luxurious treatment. We recommend the OLAPLEX No3 Perfector available from our online shop.

The steam from the bath will have opened your pores, so apply a moisture rich face mask to hydrate your skin. When you step out of the bath envelop your body in a rich moisturiser and, if you’re feeling like a full spa experience, treat yourself to a manicure and pedicure.

Make a List and Check It Twice

As we’re talking about celebrating self-care, it makes sense to make a list of things we love about ourselves! Grab a notebook and think about all the things you’d might compliment your best friend on, and extend these to yourself. You could think about your strengths, accomplishments and acts of kindness for example.

Take time to tune in to how you are feeling, meditate and try to quieten any negative inner voices that we all experience from time to time.

Take Care of Your Hair

Davines, Eco Friendly Hair Products, Hair Salon, Edinburgh, McGillsMany people say our hair is the crown we never take off, so let’s treat it that way! There’s nothing so demoralising as catching sight of ourselves in the mirror with wild lockdown locks. Even if we aren’t able to go out and socialise at the moment, let’s show ourselves and our hair some love!

We are proud to stock Davines Vegan Hair Care products and these are available to order online from our shop. If you aren’t sure which products to choose, drop us a line at mcgillshairdressing@gmail.com and we’ll be happy to advise you.

Let Your Natural Beauty Shine From Within

Nothing makes us feel better about ourselves than a healthy glow. Use this time to make a meal plan of delicious healthy foods, create a skin care routine (and stick to it) and drink more water. You’ll see a remarkable difference in a short time.

A well-balanced diet is critical to keep you fit, both physically and mentally. If you consume high levels of processed foods, your body will not be getting the vitamins and minerals it needs to stay fit and healthy.

Connect With Your Loved Ones

Coping with loneliness in lockdown has been a real challenge for so many of us. If you aren’t able to spend Valentines Day with a partner, how about booking a Galentine’s Zoom call with your girlfriends? You could watch a film or new series together or even have dinner. Writing a letter to an old friend can also be a great way to connect, and who doesn’t love to receive a handwritten note of love through the post in the days of email? If you are struggling with loneliness, there are tips from the NHS here.
